CATEGORY - Airport Contractor: Kiewit Infrastructure of Colorado Springs Owner: City of Colorado Springs Airport Engineer: RS&H The rehabilitation of Runway 17R-35L was a $16.3 Million bid-build, unit price contract for the Colorado Springs Airport, designed and managed by RS&H. The project consisted of an 11,000-foot, 150-foot-wide grooved asphalt runway with 25-foot shoulders. Work included 3D grade control of a 5-inch mill and overlay of the runway and portions of the taxiway connectors, seal coating the shoulders and blast pads, extending asphalt shoulders up to runway hold bars. Kiewit completed the 150 day contract in 138 days placing over 84,000 tons of asphalt. The partnership between the Colorado Springs Airport, RS&H, Geocal and Kiewit on phasing, quality and schedule led to the success of this project. Colorado Springs Airport Runway 17R-35L in El Paso County, Colorado WWW.CO-ASPHALT.COM 2021“Best in Colorado” Asphalt Pavement Awards CATEGORY - Rural Highway New or Reconstruction Paving Contractor: Martin Marietta Owner/Agency: CDOT Region 4 Consultants: RockSol, FHU This $8.2M project consisted of reconstruction of 10 miles of existing SH 52 in Prospect Valley, CDOT Region 4. The existing highway was pulverized in-place with Full Depth Reclamation and then 5.5” of new asphalt was constructed. Over 56,000 tons was placed over a contract period of 120 days. Coughlin Company performed all of the FDR and trimming operations and did an excellent job meeting daily production goals to achieve our end product. SH 52 Prospect Valley Spring2022| 13
